New windows for Erskineville home renovation

New windows for Erskineville home renovation

A home renovation to this inner-city terrace 20 years ago, saw the installation of traditional double-hung cedar windows and a sliding door.

Unfortunately, the windows weathered badly as they face south and sit below a vine-covered pergola which doesn’t allow the timber to dry out adequately after rain.

Typically, water pools in the corners and begins to rot with the wood becoming spongy and holding further moisture and exacerbating the problem, Pests and mould can also find a happy home in these environments.

As part of the remedy in this small home renovation, Olix suggested using aluminium windows selected from a premium range. The larger aluminium sections provide visual substance and improved rigidity. The owners of this terrace opted for standard 5mm toughened glass without glazing beads to maximise light and create a sense of openness within the interior spaces.

Glass options for residential home renovation projects abound and include double-glazing or Low-E glass for enhanced thermal performance.
